The Annual DREAM Gala Was So Inspiring!

My team and i covered the annual Dream Gala this year. This star studded event brought in over 700 people to help raise money for over 2,500 school aged kids. This event was held at Caparini and was absolutely amazing. The event started out with me covering a VIP reception across the street, while my second shooter, Lusiana worked on capturing event decor, details and the step and repeat at the main location.

I walked in the room during cocktail hour and could barely move! it was jammed packed but thank goodness for a great lens which allowed me to capture great group shots of those mixing and mingling. During the auction, I was floored at how many people quickly got involved and raised their paddles to bid on various items. They raised BIG BIG money that evening and it’s all going to a great cause!

This evening was very special and left me inspired and hopeful for a better future for all DREAM kids!

Make no mistake about it, DREAM is really making a difference!

Real, Relatable and Relevant Stock Images

If you’re in the marketing communications department, you also work very closely with designers to build the content you need to reach your target audience. The first place most people look for images they need for design is of course stock agencies. My background is in working with stock agencies and firms to provide them with useable images. Before I became a entrepreneur, I worked closely with a few agencies that came to us for images but I also noticed that quite a few images were not inclusive of the diversity within various companies.

Diversity is key to having a well rounded firm full of people who work together to get the job done. When you’re trying to reach an audience, it’s important to make sure the images are diverse and inclusive. Using stock image can help with that but they don’t always look real.

Our firm helps create real, relatable images that are authentic and relevant. We’ve successfully produced several image catalogs for clients who want authentic connections communicated in their images.

When you need something real with real people within your organization, we can help create the vision you have and bring it to life!

She's following God's Plan!!

Shortly after producing images for the Win, Rock and Rule event in April, I got a call from Alexis. During our phone consultation, she talked about her plans to launch a podcast focused on helping millennials find their way by following God’s plan. While I’m NOT a millennial, I completely fell in love with the concept because now a days, people are in the mindset that they have all the answers and don’t need guidance. NOT TRUE BOO! :-)

Alexis had a tight turn around and worked very hard getting all of her graphics and business structure together. That one missing element was strong images to support her launch. During our call, I shared with her some ideas but quite honestly, she’d already done a lot of the homework and THAT is key!

Doing the homework helps make things run so much better. I provided my very detailed planning sheets and links to resources that will help before, during and after the shoot and we nailed it!

Are you ready to nail your next session??? Let’s get started!! and in the meantime, check out https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-millennial-rookie-with-alexis-cartagena/id1462508149

Check out two of her final images below and her PODCAST GRAPHIC! I also included some behind the scene pics... This isn’t a stylist guys, this is her HUSBAND!! he was on set to help Alexis with her clothing and even helped me by holding the reflector.

I’m so in love with this couple!!! Many blessings to them in all of their future endeavors !!

PANASONIC EXECUTIVES

My relationship with Panasonic started off great and has been going very well. A few years back, i was called to produce images for their CEO, Tom Gebhardt and soon after, I was called back to produce additional images for their team.

More recently, I was contracted to create additional images for their marketing team and this time, I was able to bring a fabulous local makeup artist, Tanika Green. She came ready to SLAY and I knew she’d be a great fit because her personality matches her professionalism!! Tanika provide makeup and grooming services for this two day shoot and helped make every look simply amazing!!

During these shoots, you don’t get a lot of time to get to know everyone so it’s important for me to arrive early to set up and set the locations where we’ll be working. The lighting is always my main concern before I take the first photo so that way, I have more time getting folks to loosen up and have fun for their photos!!

Everyone did a great job!! Two Days, over 20 people and we rocked it!!

Williamsburg High Charter School Has A Leader With Vision

My mother always taught me to never burn bridges and to in fact, help build them.

I had an opportunity to create custom stock images for Williamsburg Charter High School which is lead by a FEARLESS leader and principal, Mrs. Tanisha Williams. Tanisha hired me a few years back to create images for the school she worked at called Girls Academy in Newark NJ. Shortly after producing amazing images to support their website, the school was due to close. Mrs. Williams moved on and is now the lead principal for Williamsburg Charter.

When she wanted to move away from the stock images purchased online that did not accurately represent the culture and robust programming of the school, she remembered the project I worked on in Newark and she reached out!! Yay for building relationships!!

This school is amazing! I mean, they offer so many different options to learn such as Dance, Yoga, Performance Arts, Spanish, Visual Arts and so much more. These kids are excelling and will have nothing but a bright future ahead of them !!

MY TRIP TO CUBA WAS AMAZING

I just got back from a exploratory trip to Cuba by way of Rutgers University and the Newark Business HUB. A small group of us went to share some of the projects we’re working on in the US and wanted to learn more about the projects happening in Cuba to see what opportunities exist. A few years ago, I graduated from the Newark Business HUB, a program designed to support business owners in the creative sector. It was a 9 month program very similar to the EPI program of the Rutgers Business School I graduated from many moons ago. This particular program helps those who are small business owners of creative businesses such as marketing, photography, videography, styling, performance arts, and more.

On this trip, we had a tight schedule which started off at a kick off event with the First lady of Cuba attending. I was very much so excited about seeing her but couldn’t help really really wanting to hit the streets of Cuba to experience the people and the culture but that didn’t happen until the last day. I woke up early and got a chance to walk around to explore a little before needing to head back with the group to resume our daily meeting activities.

This is a trip that you HAVE to take!! so make sure to add it to your bucket list!!

You’ll thank me later!! :-)

Stepping Into Greatness

The other day, a client review just made my day. I mean, after working with this amazing person, I knew she enjoyed her session but to hear the words that described what our working experience meant to hear was simply joyous. I Love Love Love creating magical moments that often times result in a break throughs.

Not only does the internet almost force you to be a person you don’t feel comfortable being, its most times expected that you prove who you are and what you’re capable of doing.

Creating images for marketing purposes isn’t easy as some people expect. There are a lot of internal conversations that develop the very minute you walk in front of the camera but I love it when a client lets my coaching help them get a new more positive, affirming conversation come up.

This amazing being allowed me to help her remember just how bad ass she really is!

Remember You ARE POWERFUL!

Sometimes amidst the hustle and bustle of life we can forgot our place and our purpose. it’s at those times we need to remember that we are amazing!

My thoughts on these daily reminders.

queen.jpeg

  1. Never forget just how awesome you are.

  2. Know that anything is in deed possible but it won’t come easy.

  3. Of all the choices we make in a day, being positive is one of the most important ones.

  4. You are as unique as your fingerprint. There is NO ONE on earth JUST LIKE YOU! Celebrate that.

  5. Being prepared is the key word here. As long as you’re getting yourself ready for abundance and increase, you won’t go wrong.

INCREASE YOUR ONLINE VISIBILITY WITH A PROFILE PIC!

A few weeks ago, I was asked to speak at the National Sales Network event lead by the the amazing  #Jheryn Kerry held at and sponsored by none other than LINKEDIN! and got an opportunity to speak about portraits and how effective and relevant they are in the climate we live in today. People want to know and do business with people they know! You’ve heard that before and it’s true.

During the talk, #GregButler of LinkedIn shared facts about LinkedIn profiles… Did you know that profiles with a pic versus those without pictures are 14x’s more likely to be viewed?? In addition to speaking, I also provided onsite portraits for those that truly needed to have updated images for their social media profiles.

Check out some of the powerhouses I photographed!! During my talk, I did a quick survey and found that some folks had not updated their pics in 2, 5, 8 and 10 years!!! Are you one of those people??? Do you look like your photo? If not, what’s one main reasons you haven’t taken the opportunity to invest in new photos of yourself? Inquiring minds want to know!

9 REASONS WHY YOU NEED A NEW HEADSHOT! It’s funny but very true!!

neednewheadshot.jpeg

I’m loving the awesome questions I’m getting behind the scenes regarding headshots at the SOLD OUT Win, Rock & Rule event next week. The other day, I published 10 tips for nailing your headshots at the event. I hope you took a moment to review it so you’re well prepared! This post is for those who need a reality check :-) Read it and have a good laugh!

1.    Your current headshot was taken with a Polaroid camera. If it’s been that long sweetie, it’s time to update your headshot. Push aside your fear of the camera and let your best self shine through!

2.    Your headshot is your senior high school photo. Well, it may be mom approved but honestly speaking, it has served its time. When putting your personal belongings in your purse, put your confidence in there as well and show up and show out!

3.    You submit selfies as headshots. I love a good selfie, even if it takes 40 minutes to get the perfect one BUT, it’s not something that works for you and your career. Cute for social media fun posts, but not for the dynamic takeover you’re working towards!

4.    You look different, like um 20+ years different.  You still get compliments on that one photo you ALWAYS use but people are talking!  They’re probably trying to send a hint. Let them know you got it and arrive on set ready to #SLAY!

5.    Your Uncle Cornbread, the one that just got a new camera, took your headshot. We love family members that know how to point-and-shoot. I get it, they’re familiar, it’s free and it didn’t come out all that bad. NOT! You’re better than this. Own up to the world domination you’re aiming for and get that professional, clean and contemporary shot you deserve!

6.    They walk past you at the event you’re Key Note Speaker for. That’s because they didn’t notice you! If you look very different from your current headshot, the one you took when you were 20lbs lighter or heavier or your hair was black, now it’s blonde or you decided to go natural. It’s time!

7.    You cringe after seeing they used a pic of you found on Google. People don’t like to wait until you get your photos and bios together. Especially journalist and designers. They’ll just Google you and post anything they can get their hands on. Even that one picture you could have sworn you deleted. Don’t let that happen to you. Simply put, Be Media Ready!

8.    You read somewhere that bathroom lighting is best. All I can say to that is NO. Just show up and let’s get some real flattering lighting. You’ll thank me later.

9.    You submit the candid your friend took of you at the party.  Your friend caught you off guard. Your smile was genuine and carefree. It’s a nice image of you but DON’T even think about submitting it to the journal you’re going to be featured in! Oops! I should have published this article sooner huh? “Ms. I have my stuff together, it’s time for an official publicity photo! Call me!!” – Tamara Fleming Photography
